Staying at High Nature

Six reasons you should book with us…

We are located in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 337 square kilometres of protected landscape.

Our yurts are warm and cosy, beautifully hand-made, furnished and decorated to a high standard with unique textiles and furnishings. Our solid oak frame beds were built by local carpenter Don Rigby, and our wood burners are built by local blacksmith Martin Champion.

We are just a few minutes walk from some of the most spectacular sandy beaches and coastal walks in England. So whether you want to walk, cycle, surf or simply relax on the beach, we are perfectly situated to meet all these needs.

Camping with us will also provide you with the opportunity to explore The High Nature Centre and discover and learn about organic food growing, permaculture, participate in an activity or experience one of our alfresco dining events .

We are located in a micro-climate which means we experience some of the best and worst weather the UK has to offer.  However, we have plenty of undercover space for you to relax, play, eat and enjoy yourselves, whatever the forecast!

With Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth just a short ferry ride or drive away, you will find everything you need from the wonderful selection of independent businesses located in the surrounding area. Plus, just a few minutes down the road is the Gara Rock Hotel with it's fantastic views from the restaurant, and The Pig Nose Inn, a very special public house, not to be missed!

Private & Shared Facilities

Private Mobile Kitchen Units

We provide mobile kitchen units so that all our yurts can be independent if preferred. They include a sturdy workbench, cast iron gas hobs (gas included), a sink, a cool box, a water butt, food storage areas and all crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. Freezer/cool packs can be rotated in a separate fridge/freezer located outside at the back of the yurt camp kitchen, you can also refill your water and dispose of waste and recycling here.

Shared Yurt Camp Kitchen Cabin (Yurts only)

This kitchen has everything you need for self catering including gas hobs, a grill, 2 ovens, fridges, small freezer, storage cupboards for food, washing up facilities, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, recycling bins, indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Those bringing their own accommodation will also need to bring their own camping kitchens.

Shared Tunnel Spaces

Some of our tunnels are accessible to our guests.  You are most welcome to hang out in the games and solar shower tunnel, you will find a table tennis table and other games and art supplies here.  Please tidy up before you leave and make sure kids are supervised and responsible.  Our dining tunnel is available to use at lunch times and during bad whether (unless we have an event on).  You are also welcome to hang wet clothes in our drying tunnel.

Compost Toilets

Our compost toilets are a dry ‘closed loop’ system meaning that your waste produce is converted into a valuable resource to feed our trees.  The process takes 18 months.  We have been doing this process since 2009 and our trees are very grateful!

Hot Showers

The hot showers and compost toilets are a shared facility and are located at the back of the main camping field.  They are checked and cleaned regularly.

BBQ, Braizers, Fire Bowls

We have a limited number available here for our guests to use (please enquire). You are welcome to bring your own but all fires must be raised from the ground to protect the grass from damage.
