Yurts

The High Nature Yurts

Our yurts are warm and cosy, beautifully hand-made and furnished and decorated to a high standard with unique locally made and quality recycled furniture. The coppiced yurts were produced by craftspeople from South Devon and East Sussex. Two of our yurt frames were made here at High Nature by the founders who coppiced the wood from Haldon Forest near Exeter. The frames are made ‘in the round’, meaning each pole is beautifully unique and truly wonderful to stare up at whilst you’re lying in bed.  Our covers were lovingly made by two companies based here in South Devon.

The yurt camp consists of a spacious field, with the sea located on the southern boundary. The field is divided into 4 main circular spaces so that visitors can feel enclosed within their own private glade. Wildflowers provide valuable wildlife habitat, fabulous for observing bees and butterflies. A large standing stone provides a focus in the middle of the field. On a clear evening, the sunsets and star gazing up here on the plateau are truly spectacular.

Our hand-block printed bed linen packs have been hand-picked by us from Rajasthan, India.  Over the last 10 years we have developed strong connections with our producers and have taken the time to visit the workshops to meet the craftsmen.  We are proud to support the fading ancient art of Jaipur block printing.  These need to be booked separately and are £15 pp, doubles/kings are £30.

All Yurts include: A log burner (one basket of wood and kindling included), 12v lighting, C02 & smoke alarms, an outdoor mobile kitchen unit, and a picnic bench.

Private & Shared Facilities

Private Mobile Kitchen Units

We provide mobile kitchen units so that all our yurts can be independent if preferred. They include a sturdy workbench, cast iron gas hobs (gas included), a sink, a cool box, a water butt, food storage areas and all crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. Freezer/cool packs can be rotated in a separate fridge/freezer located outside at the back of the yurt camp kitchen, you can also refill your water and dispose of waste and recycling here.

Shared Yurt Camp Kitchen Cabin (Yurts only)

This kitchen has everything you need for self catering including gas hobs, a grill, 2 ovens, fridges, small freezer, storage cupboards for food, washing up facilities, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, recycling bins, indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Those bringing their own accommodation will also need to bring their own camping kitchens.

Shared Tunnel Spaces

Some of our tunnels are accessible to our guests.  You are most welcome to hang out in the games and solar shower tunnel, you will find a table tennis table and other games and art supplies here.  Please tidy up before you leave and make sure kids are supervised and responsible.  Our dining tunnel is available to use at lunch times and during bad whether (unless we have an event on).  You are also welcome to hang wet clothes in our drying tunnel.

Compost Toilets

Our compost toilets are a dry ‘closed loop’ system meaning that your waste produce is converted into a valuable resource to feed our trees.  The process takes 18 months.  We have been doing this process since 2009 and our trees are very grateful!

Hot Showers

The hot showers and compost toilets are a shared facility and are located at the back of the main camping field.  They are checked and cleaned regularly.

BBQ, Braizers, Fire Bowls

We have a limited number available here for our guests to use (please enquire). You are welcome to bring your own but all fires must be raised from the ground to protect the grass from damage.
